“Guitars for Change” is a Baltimore Classical Guitar Society (BCGS) educational initiative launched in fall 2018, initially in collaboration with the Center of Help in Annapolis, MD. Focused on immigrant and refugee children, the program provides participants with free guitars, accessories, and weekly lessons to inspire and empower them through music.
Currently operating in partnership with Maryland Hall as part of their “Jovenes Artistas” initiative, the program demonstrates a successful impact in Annapolis. Building on this, “Guitars for Change” is set to expand to Baltimore City starting early 2024, with classes to be held at the Casa de la Cultura of Nuestras Raíces in Highlandtown.
The Guitars for Change ensemble, which includes some of the most advanced students from the Annapolis program, regularly showcases their remarkable talent and progress.
